Scientists are genetically altering cows so they have no horns in a bid to make them safer.

The genetically modified dairy cow will be identical in every way to other livestock but without the horns, in order to cut the risk of injury to farmers, walkers and other animals.

Desperate foster home needed for 15 month old Border Collie #Lancs (18/12/12).

We are desperately looking for a foster home for Bobby.
Bobby is approximately 15 months old, un-neutered male Border collie who is about to be made homeless due to a temporary fosterer losing their home.
He was about to be left on the streets owner-less when this kind lady offered to help him but sadly her circumstances have changed and Bobby has found himself again needing somewhere to live. He is house trained, currently walking quite well on a harness as he can be quite strong on the lead, He hasnt had much socialization around children and other dogs or animals so maybe a home where he will be an only dog may suit him better.He loves a cuddle and to play ball
If you can help PLEASE contact us,we would love to have him homed before Christmas.

Below is a You Tube video about knitting with dog hair. Not something I have never tried or worn I must say and I must admit that it sounds a little strange at first.

The use of dog’s hair for knitting may sound strange but I suppose it is no different to using a sheep’s hair. All that happens is the dog is brushed to get the hair for knitting.

Whereas a sheep is selectively breed to have an unnatural, heavy coat. Sheep would naturally have a water-proof coat of hair over a thin layer of the white fluffy layer that we call wool, which is actually just meant to be a thin undercoat. They have been selectively bred to have no hair but a very heavy undercoat. This makes sheep very vulnerable to the elements in cold wet countries such as the UK. The sheep are also roughly man-handled and forced into submission when we sheer them.

So in the end it just comes down to our perceptions of different animals as to how we use them I think.

Graphic footage of the Ledbury Hunt killing a fox has today been released. The incident happened on the 23rd November 2012 in a private garden in Eldersfield, Gloucestershire and was captured on film by members of Three Counties and Coventry Hunt saboteurs.

They were sadly too late to rescue the fox, but one did obtain film of the hounds repeatedly savaging the animal for a protracted period, whilst she and a colleague attempted to get the dogs off it. It is unclear at what point the fox succumbed to its multiple wounds, but when they were able to retrieve the animal from the pack it had been effectively disembowelled.

Footage of the kill, and from beforehand, is being examined by lawyers from the RSPCA to determine if there are grounds for prosecution under the Hunting Act. Results of a post-mortem are being withheld pending a decision.

This incident is a sad contrast to the events of a week earlier when hunt monitors from POWA saved a fox from the Old Berks Hunt. Footage of that incident is here . The BBC South TV News report on it is here.
